Police have launched an investigation after a woman was struck and killed by a train near the Wellawatte Railway Station on Saturday (30) evening.

According to police, the train was travelling from Panadura towards Colombo when the incident occurred within the Wellawatte Police Division.

The deceased woman was dressed in a white and brown sari and was carrying a green bag at the time of the incident. Her identity has not yet been established.

The body has been placed at the Kalubowila Hospital mortuary, while the Wellawatte Police are conducting further investigations. (NewsWire)
