Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof Announces Plans to Leave Post

Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof said he had previously informed President Anura Kumara Dissanayake of his desire to step down from the post, citing growing responsibilities and family obligations, while adding that he will continue serving until a successor is appointed.

In a press release issued, Yusoof said balancing his responsibilities as governor, his additional role as the president’s special envoy for foreign direct investment and family commitments had become increasingly challenging.

Yusoof said he had conveyed his intention to resign some time ago amid recent media speculation over his position.

“At the request of His Excellency, I will continue to serve as Governor until a suitable successor is identified, in order to ensure a smooth and orderly transition,” Yusoof said.

He said that after stepping down as governor, he intends to continue serving in his voluntary honorary role as the president’s special envoy for foreign direct investment. In that capacity, he said he would continue supporting efforts to attract investment to Sri Lanka through his international networks and relationships.

Yusoof said he remained committed to serving the country and expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in him by the president.  (Newswire)
