Drone strike causes fire at UAE nuclear plant; no radiation risk reported

A drone strike caused a fire at an electrical generator at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the UAE’s Al Dhafra region on Sunday, authorities said, adding that there were no injuries and no impact on nuclear safety levels.
According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, the fire occurred outside the plant’s inner perimeter and was brought under control. The UAE’s nuclear regulator said essential systems continued operating normally and radiological safety levels remained unaffected.
The incident has drawn attention due to heightened regional tensions, although Emirati authorities did not immediately assign responsibility for the attack and no group has claimed involvement.
The Barakah facility is the UAE’s only nuclear power plant and supplies a significant share of the country’s electricity needs. (Newswire)
