Police conducted two separate raids on Saturday (25.04.2026), resulting in the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of a significant quantity of illegal liquor in the Horana and Negombo police divisions.

In the first operation, officers from the Walana Central Corruption Prevention and Combating Unit carried out a raid in the Pelpola Watta area of the Horana Police Division based on a tip-off. During the operation, they arrested a 60-year-old suspect, a resident of the Moonagama area, with 187.5 litres (250 bottles) of illegal liquor. The suspect was handed over to Horana Police, and further investigations are ongoing.

In a separate incident on the same day, officers from the Negombo Police Station conducted a raid in the Dalupatha area of the Negombo Police Division following information received. A 49-year-old suspect from the same area was arrested with 90 litres (120 bottles) of illegal liquor. Negombo Police are continuing investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)
