Police have revealed further details surrounding the murder of a Chinese national following a clash between two groups of Chinese nationals at the Colombo Port City on July 23.

According to Police, the incident occurred at around 3 a.m. when a confrontation broke out between the two groups. One individual was allegedly abducted following the clash, and his body was later recovered from the Eheliyagoda area.

Investigations subsequently established that the deceased had been part of one of the groups that had entered the Port City that night.

Police said two Chinese nationals suspected of attempting to flee Sri Lanka were arrested within hours of the incident. Investigators have identified them as the main suspects in the case.

A total of eight suspects have so far been identified, of whom three have already left Sri Lanka. Steps are being taken to bring them back to the country for further investigations.

Police have also recovered two air pistols, a mobile phone, a walkie-talkie and several vehicles believed to have been used in connection with the crime.

Investigations have revealed that those involved had previously operated in several other countries before arriving in Sri Lanka.

Police further said the murdered Chinese national is believed to have been involved in computer-related scams through which he had allegedly earned money illegally.
