A Sub-Inspector attached to the Wathupitiwala Investment Zone Police Post has been suspended with immediate effect after a video showing him engaged in a heated argument with members of the public went viral on social media.

Police said the incident occurred at around 10.45 a.m. on July 23 outside a private establishment near the Wathupitiwala Hospital.

According to Police, the officer, who was in uniform, behaved in a manner deemed inappropriate for an officer on duty and allegedly used a threatening tone while arguing with members of the public.

Police said his conduct could bring disrepute to Sri Lanka Police and the wider public service and set a negative precedent for other officers.

Accordingly, the officer was suspended with immediate effect under provisions of the Establishments Code.

Sri Lanka Police said inappropriate or improper conduct by officers responsible for upholding law and discipline would not be tolerated. (Newswire)
