Police have arrested a suspect over a viral video showing a woman being violently assaulted with a stick in the Moragahahena area.

According to police, the incident occurred after the woman had asked her neighbour to stop lighting firecrackers, saying the loud noise was causing distress to her pet dogs.

Following the circulation of the video on social media, Moragahahena Police launched an investigation and recorded a statement from the victim.

The suspect, a 54-year-old resident of Velmilla, was subsequently arrested.

He was produced before the Horana Magistrate’s Court and remanded until April 24. (Newswire)
