5 arrested over Ragama incident where woman’s hair was forcibly cut

Five suspects, including the main accused, have been arrested by police over an incident in which a woman was assaulted and her hair forcibly cut at a shop in the Ragama area.
Police said the arrests were made based on video footage that circulated on social media. Following the incident, officers recorded a statement from the victim and referred her to the Ragama Teaching Hospital for a medical examination.
The main suspect is a 27-year-old resident of Ragama. Four others aged 20, 21, 22, and 23 — from Rajanganaya, Kadawatha, Ragama, and Trincomalee — were also taken into custody.
All suspects are due to be produced before the Welisara Magistrate’s Court on April 18.
