Mahinda Rajapaksa, Piyankara Jayaratne summoned to CIABOC over Airbus deal probe

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and former Minister Piyankara Jayaratne have been summoned to appear before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on May 12 to record statements in connection with the ongoing Airbus deal investigation.

The case relates to allegations of corruption in the SriLankan Airlines aircraft procurement agreement, which remains under investigation.

Former SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena was previously arrested by the Bribery Commission over allegations linked to the deal, and legal proceedings in the case are ongoing.

According to court records, funds connected to the Airbus agreement are alleged to have been used as bribes involving multiple parties, including political figures. (NewsWire)
