No bus fare revision despite diesel price hike: NTC

The National Transport Commission (NTC) has confirmed that there will be no revision of bus fares despite the recent increase in diesel prices.
The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) raised the price of Lanka White Diesel by Rs. 15 per litre and Super Diesel by Rs. 20 per litre, effective from midnight on 30 May.
However, the NTC stated that an interim bus fare adjustment will not be implemented at this stage.
Meanwhile, the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association has urged authorities to consider an interim fare revision in response to the fuel price hike.
Speaking at a media briefing today (31), Chairman Gemunu Wijeratne said the adjustment should be introduced ahead of the annual fare revision scheduled for July.
The association is expecting a 5% fare increase to take effect from 2 June. (NewsWire)
