Work begins on Independence Square walking path after Harsha raises concerns
Repair work has commenced on the walking path at Independence Square after Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Harsha de Silva highlighted its deteriorating condition and urged authorities to take immediate action.
In a post on X on Tuesday, de Silva shared photographs of workers carrying out repairs and welcomed the move.
“Work has started… but why did it have to take so long until I pointed it out? Anyway good. Thank you. Now hope you maintain it,” he wrote.
On Monday, de Silva had called on the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) and the Urban Development Authority (UDA) to urgently repair the popular walking path, warning that rocky protrusions posed a safety risk, particularly to elderly walkers.
He had also questioned why soil brought to repair sections of the path had remained unused for months, urging authorities to act before someone was seriously injured. (Newswire)
