Vijay has announced 200 units of free electricity for domestic consumers in one of his first major decisions after assuming office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

According to Indian media reports, the benefit will apply to households with bimonthly electricity consumption of up to 500 units. Consumers using above 500 units will continue under the existing tariff structure, which includes 100 units of free electricity every two months.

The announcement was made after Vijay was sworn in as Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister on Sunday following his party’s victory in the 2026 Assembly Elections.

Apart from the electricity relief, Vijay also approved the setting up of special task forces focused on women’s safety and anti-drug operations across the state.  (Newswire)
