UAE eyes Colombo Port opportunities during talks with Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe

The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Sri Lanka, Khaled Nasser AlAmeri, met Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe today to discuss strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed growing economic ties, with bilateral trade currently valued at around US$ 1.5 billion. The UAE is Sri Lanka’s seventh-largest export destination and third-largest import partner.
The UAE Ambassador highlighted interest by Abu Dhabi Ports Company in opportunities linked to the Port of Colombo, while Minister Samarasinghe said investment opportunities were available at both the Colombo and Port of Trincomalee ports.
The discussions also focused on maritime connectivity, aviation cooperation, and the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two countries.
The UAE also expressed interest in expanding cooperation with SriLankan Airlines, particularly in aircraft maintenance and related services.
Officials from the Trade Ministry and Department of Commerce also attended the meeting. (Newswire)
