TN Governor tells Vijay he lacks numbers to form government
Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay has been told by Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar that his party does not currently have enough support to form a government, according to Indian media reports.
Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerged as a key player in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, triggering speculation that the actor could become the state’s next chief minister.
Reports said Vijay met the Governor after the results were announced and sought to stake a claim to form the government.
However, the Governor reportedly informed him that TVK had not yet demonstrated the required majority support in the state assembly.
Under India’s parliamentary system, a party or alliance must command a majority in the legislature to form a government. (Newswire)
