Sri Lankan athlete Tarushi Abisheka won the gold medal in the girls’ 1500m event at the Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships currently underway in Hong Kong on Thursday (28), with a timing of 4 minutes and 31.41 seconds.

She secured the first place ahead of Iran’s Maryam Baluoutaki and South Korea’s Song Dawson, who finished second and third respectively.

Abisheka also competes in both the 800m and 1500m events.

The championship features athletes from 40 countries competing across 46 events.

Sri Lanka is represented at the tournament by a 22-member squad comprising 15 male athletes and seven female athletes. (Newswire)
