A supermarket in Gampola has been fined Rs. 500,000 after pleading guilty to selling locally produced Nadu rice above the Government’s controlled price.

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) said legal action was filed in the Gampola Magistrate’s Court after investigators found the supermarket selling Nadu rice at Rs. 240 per kilogram, exceeding the maximum retail price of Rs. 230 per kilogram.

The violation was detected during a raid carried out by CAA officers on June 23.

The supermarket admitted the offence when the case was taken up before the Gampola Magistrate’s Court, following which the court imposed the Rs. 500,000 fine. (Newswire)
