Sri Lanka’s Sameera Mehboobdeen departs to join Gaza aid flotilla mission

Representing Sri Lanka, Sameera Mehboobdeen has departed the country to join the Global Sumud Flotilla – Spring Mission for Gaza 2026, an international effort aimed at breaking the siege in Gaza.
The flotilla, which first set sail last year, brings together thousands of activists from nearly 100 countries.
Its mission is to deliver essential food, medicine, and humanitarian supplies to the Gaza Strip, defying the blockade imposed by Israeli forces.
Mehboobdeen’s participation was highlighted at a media briefing held on Monday (20) at the Embassy of Palestine in Sri Lanka, organized by the Free Palestine Organization.
The event expressed solidarity with the Palestinian struggle and support for Mehboobdeen’s courageous journey, with a candle lighting ceremony.
The Global Sumud Flotilla is seen as a symbol of international solidarity, with volunteers risking their safety to challenge restrictions and deliver aid.
“We wish victory for the struggle for a Free Palestine and pray for strength, courage, and the safe return of Sister Sameera Mehboobdeen,” Government MP Najith Indika said, participating in the event. (Newswire)
