Sri Lanka U-19 cricketers arrested over bathroom video incident: Police provide more details

Police have provided more details regarding the incident where two Sri Lanka Under 19 cricketers were arrested in connection with the alleged recording of an obscene video involving a woman at a hotel in the Narahenpita area.
The Narahenpita Police launched an investigation following a 119 emergency message received on 29 April 2026. The complaint stated that a woman had been filmed through a bathroom window while she was inside, along with several female doctors attending a workshop held at a hotel on Fife Road on 27 April.
Subsequent inquiries led to the arrest of two individuals who had been staying in other rooms at the same hotel. The suspects, aged 18 and 19, are residents of Pannala and Kandy.
Police investigations further revealed that the two suspects are members of Sri Lanka’s Under-19 cricket team. They had reportedly travelled to Colombo for training at the R. Premadasa Stadium and were staying at the hotel with other team members at the time of the incident.
The suspects were produced before the Hulsdorph Magistrate’s Court on 29 April and were released on personal bail of Rs. 500,000 each. The case is scheduled to be taken up again on 25 May 2026.
