Sri Lanka tourist arrivals drop in April amid Middle East tensions

Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka fell by 22.3% in April, 2026 compared to April, 2025, according to data released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).
A total of 135,643 tourists visited the country in April 2026, down from 174,608 arrivals recorded in April 2025, the SLTDA said.
India remained the largest source market, accounting for 42,645 arrivals or 31% of the total. Other key markets included China with 10,544 visitors, the United Kingdom with 10,425, Australia with 9,943 and Russia with 6,898 arrivals.
The April decline follows 183,979 tourist arrivals recorded in March 2026.
Cumulative tourist arrivals for 2026 rose to 876,277, with India contributing 189,978 visitors, followed by the United Kingdom with 88,845 and Russia with 72,816, according to the SLTDA. (Newswire)
