Sri Lanka to launch National Export Development Plan 2026-2030

Sri Lanka will launch its National Export Development Plan (NEDP) 2026-2030 on June 16, setting out a five-year strategy aimed at boosting exports and achieving an export revenue target of US$36 billion by 2030.
The plan, developed in line with the Government’s national vision of “A Prosperous Nation – A Beautiful Life”, is expected to serve as the country’s strategic roadmap for export-led economic growth over the next five years.
The formulation of the NEDP was proposed in the 2025 Budget as a national priority to enhance export competitiveness and support sustainable economic growth. The framework was prepared by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) with technical assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under the Policy-Based Lending Programme of the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development.
The plan is built around two key pillars. The first, known as the “Horizontal” pillar, focuses on strengthening the foundations required for export growth across all sectors. These include trade facilitation, trade finance, investment ecosystem development, trade promotion, market access, supply chain management, consolidation centre operations, quality infrastructure, standards, environmental, social and governance (ESG) compliance, as well as skills development, innovation and entrepreneurship.
The second pillar identifies eight priority sectors, referred to as “Verticals”, to drive export diversification and value addition. These sectors include auto components, minerals-based industries, rubber-based industries, marine-based industries including boat and shipbuilding, spices and concentrates, digital products and services, electrical and electronic components, and processed food and beverages.
The plan was developed following extensive regional consultations involving more than 300 stakeholders from the public and private sectors, civil society organisations and international development partners. (Newswire)
