Sri Lanka marks International Tea Day with Ceylon Tea event in Los Angeles

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles, together with the Sri Lanka Tea Board, organized a special Ceylon Tea Tasting Session on May 21 to mark International Tea Day 2026.
The event brought together tea importers, diplomats, media representatives and tea enthusiasts to promote the heritage, quality and sustainability of Ceylon Tea.
Delivering the welcome remarks, Consul General Achini Perera highlighted the importance of International Tea Day and the contribution of the Sri Lankan tea industry to the country’s economy, culture and global trade.
Minister (Commerce) Rekha Mallikarachchi conducted a presentation on the history, characteristics and regional diversity of Ceylon Tea, with a focus on Sri Lanka’s seven tea-growing regions and their unique flavour profiles.
The programme also featured an interactive tea tasting session led by experienced tea planter and tea taster Pujitha Ubayasiri, who introduced guests to the distinctive tastes and aromas of teas produced across Sri Lanka.
Video presentations on tea production, artisanal teas and sustainability initiatives were also screened during the event.
The Consulate General said the programme helped strengthen engagement with tea importers and consumers in the United States while promoting awareness of authentic Ceylon Tea. (Newswire)
