Sri Lanka, Belarus Plan Stronger Political and Economic Engagement

Sri Lanka and Belarus have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors following talks between Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath and Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov during an official visit to Belarus.
In a statement issued after the meeting, Minister Vijitha Herath said discussions focused on expanding Sri Lanka–Belarus ties in political, economic, educational, cultural and people-to-people cooperation.
The two sides also agreed to enhance bilateral engagement through regular political consultations and by convening the Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) on Trade and Economic Cooperation later this year.
Minister Herath noted that Sri Lanka and Belarus are marking the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, describing it as a reflection of the longstanding friendship and shared commitment to deeper cooperation between the two countries.
