A 61-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her son following an argument at their residence in Thonikkal, Vavuniya, on September 19, police said.

According to police, the woman sustained serious injuries after being attacked with a sharp weapon and died after being admitted to Vavuniya Hospital.

Preliminary investigations revealed that an argument between the mother and son had escalated, resulting in the alleged attack.

Police said the son was subsequently found dead by suspected suicide in a nearby room.

The bodies have been placed at the Vavuniya Hospital mortuary.
