The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning in the Uva and Eastern provinces and in the Jaffna, Mullaittivu, Vavuniya and Polonnaruwa districts  today (19).

Per the advisory, effective until 11.30 pm, red alerts have been issued to 09 districts and amber alerts to 16 districts.

The Met Department warns that thundershowers accompanied with severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in the said provinces and districts, while there may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. 

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity. (Newswire)
