Sachin Tendulkar proposes 3 new rules for IPL

Indian Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has proposed three changes to address what he believes is an increasing bat-ball imbalance in the Indian Premier League (IPL), with scores continuing to soar and bowlers facing growing challenges.
Speaking at an event, Tendulkar suggested:
• Removing the Impact Player rule, arguing that it effectively allows teams to add an extra batter, making life even harder for bowlers.
• Splitting the Powerplay, with the first four overs remaining mandatory and the final two Powerplay overs available for the fielding captain to use at any stage of the innings.
• Allowing one bowler to bowl five overs instead of the current four-over limit, giving teams greater opportunity to use their best bowler against top batters.
Tendulkar said the Impact Player rule has tilted the game too heavily in favour of batters, while the split Powerplay and five-over bowling option would introduce more tactical balance and create additional opportunities for bowlers to influence matches.
The suggestions come amid growing debate over the dominance of batters in T20 cricket, particularly in the IPL, where several teams have regularly crossed the 250-run mark during the 2026 season. (Newswire)
