Two police officers who arrested a suspect in possession of crystal methamphetamine (“Ice”) near the Kawdana Junction in Dehiwala on July 23 were commended by senior police officers on Monday (27).

The officers, Police Sergeant Manawadu (69976) and Police Constable Chandana (79811), were recognised by Mount Lavinia Division Senior Superintendent of Police Gunasekara and Assistant Superintendent of Police II Nilanga for their actions during the arrest.

Police said the suspect had behaved violently and obstructed police duties by using criminal force during the arrest. However, the two officers successfully subdued the suspect by applying their police training.

Acting on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police, the officers were each awarded Rs. 25,000 from the Police Reward Fund in recognition of their commendable service. (Newswire)
