Police have arrested 8 men and 2 women after recovering 03 kg 790 g of gold and Rs. 16,900,000 in cash from a hotel in Madawala.

The arrests were made on Tuesday (22) following a raid conducted by the Wattegama Police based on received information.

The suspects, aged between 42 and 58, are residents of Walapane, Nawalapitiya, Wellawatte, Kotahena and Modara.

Police also recovered a gold testing stone, 01 litre of acid and 2 grinders believed to have been used for testing or processing gold.

The suspects were produced before the Panwila Magistrate’s Court and remanded until July 30.

Police said further investigations are underway to determine the origin of the gold and cash found in the suspects’ possession. (Newswire)
