The Sri Lanka Navy has recovered a consignment of smuggled dried turmeric weighing about 1,038kg during a coastal search operation conducted in the Thillayadi beach area of Kalpitiya on Wednesday (22).

According to the Navy, the operation was carried out by personnel from SLNS Vijaya of the Northwestern Naval Command.

While patrolling the shoreline, they seized 26 suspicious sacks containing the turmeric from the beach vicinity. 

The entire stock was later handed over to the Kalpitiya Police Station for legal proceedings. (Newswire)
