Legal action is being taken against a shop in Kandy city after officers of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) discovered it was hoarding gas stocks while falsely claiming to customers that supplies were unavailable.

The CAA said the raid was carried out on Monday (20) as part of its ongoing nationwide campaign to crack down on merchants who inconvenience the public by hoarding gas and selling it above the stipulated price.

Officials confirmed that the businessman responsible will face legal proceedings in due course.

The Authority stressed that continuous raids are being conducted across the country to protect consumers from unfair practices. (Newswire)
