Japan has issued an alert for a potential megaquake following a magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck the country’s north, while earlier tsunami advisories have been lifted.
The Japan Meteorological Agency warned that residents in seven prefectures should remain on alert and follow official updates.
The agency said there is an increased probability of a major earthquake along two deep-sea trenches in the Pacific Ocean.
The alert covers 182 cities and towns across seven prefectures, from Hokkaido to Chiba. (Newswire)
