The government has decided to cancel, with immediate effect, the procurement process related to the controversial electronic passport (e-passport) project, according to Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Ajith P. Perera.

Speaking to media Perera said that the decision has been communicated to the relevant bidders via email on May 29, 2026, by the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration.

According to Perera, the email informed bidders that the Cabinet of Ministers had directed the immediate cancellation of the procurement process for the project. (Newswire)
