The Bandarawela Magistrate’s Court has imposed a fine of Rs. 1 million on Future Life Hotels and Resorts (Pvt) Ltd, located in Nafora Ella, Karadagolla, for selling bottled drinking water above the stipulated price, the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) said.

The CAA’s Badulla District investigation officers filed legal action against the hotel for violating the provisions of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act.

According to the CAA, a raid carried out by its officers on July 10, 2026, found that the hotel had sold bottled drinking water at prices exceeding the regulated price.

When the case was taken up before the Bandarawela Magistrate’s Court on July 22, the hotel company pleaded guilty to the charges. The court subsequently imposed a fine of Rs. 1 million.

The CAA urged the public to report hotels, restaurants and other businesses violating consumer protection laws by calling its 1977 hotline during office hours. (Newswire)
