‘Dubai Sudda’ arrested over alleged overseas jobs scam

Officers of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) Special Investigation Division have arrested a suspect known as “Dubai Sudda” in connection with an alleged foreign employment scam involving jobs in Dubai and Moldova.

The suspect was arrested in Kaduwela on Monday (01) following a complaint lodged by a resident of Giriulla who alleged that he had paid Rs. 700,000 for employment in Dubai but was not provided the promised job.

The suspect, a member of the Bulathsinhala Pradeshiya Sabha representing the United National Party (UNP), had allegedly used tourist visas to send Sri Lankans overseas for employment and had promoted the scheme through social media platforms.

The suspect, who had recently returned to Sri Lanka from abroad, attempted to flee in his private vehicle when officers moved to arrest him, but was subsequently taken into custody.

The Bureau stated that he is a key suspect in an alleged network sending workers to Dubai on tourist visas and had previously been arrested by the SLBFE before being released on bail.

The suspect is due to be produced before the Kuliyapitiya Magistrate’s Court. (Newswire)
