Dilith says Poland has complained over Sri Lanka passport fraud

Sarvajana Balaya leader Dilith Jayaweera has alleged that irregularities took place in Sri Lanka’s e-passport procurement process, claiming that a company linked to the Polish Government was unfairly overlooked despite submitting what he described as the “best tender”.
Addressing a media briefing, Jayaweera claimed the Polish-linked company had offered a more competitive proposal with better pricing, reliability, and international experience, but the contract was instead awarded to a “favoured company” without a justifiable reason.
He further alleged that the Polish Government has already raised concerns with Sri Lanka’s Government and Foreign Ministry over the matter and is expected to escalate the complaint to the European Union.
Jayaweera claimed that a proper investigation must be conducted into the e-passport tender process, alleging that “fraud has definitely taken place” in the transaction.
The Sarvajana Balaya leader also linked the controversy to a series of recent corruption allegations raised against the Government, including the coal procurement issue and the recent cyber fraud involving a US$2.5 million Treasury payment.
He accused the Government of attempting to overshadow one controversy with another, while rejecting suggestions that the incidents were merely administrative mistakes.
“These are not errors. These transactions are intentional,” Jayaweera said, alleging that the country is witnessing an “organised system of corruption”.
He further claimed that within a short period, multiple corruption-related controversies have emerged under the present administration, urging authorities to provide answers to both the public and the international community regarding the passport procurement process. (Newswire)
