Deputy Defence Minister conducts field inspection in Jaffna

Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General (Retd), Aruna Jayasekara conducted a field inspection visit to several key locations in the Jaffna Peninsula on Tuesday (26).
He was joined by Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources Ramalingam Chandrasekar, the Jaffna District Secretary and other government officials.
During the inspection tour, the Deputy Defence Minister reviewed matters related to national security and public welfare, including ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and illegal activities such as illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Attention was also focused on civilian land issues, with discussions held on the progress of releasing state-held lands back to their original owners to support community resettlement efforts.
Senior military officials, including the Commander of the Army, Commander of Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna, regional Divisional Secretaries and other government officials, also participated in the visit. (Newswire)
