Dramatic CCTV footage has emerged showing the fatal road accident in Bolawalana, Katana, which claimed the lives of two teenagers on Wednesday night.

The footage shows two motorcycles, reportedly travelling at high speed, crashing into the trailer of a prime mover that was reversing into a container yard along the Negombo–Minuwangoda Road.

The riders, aged 18 and 19, died at the scene due to the impact of the collision.

Following the crash, a group of people gathered at the scene and set fire to the prime mover. Firefighters from the Negombo Municipal Council, together with officers from the Katana Police, extinguished the blaze and brought the situation under control.

Police have launched investigations into both the fatal crash and the arson attack on the vehicle.

The victims have been identified as 18-year-old Thalisha Nimneth Siriwardena and 19-year-old Kavindu Hashan Somathilaka, both residents of the Dagonnna area in Negombo. (Newswire)
