CAA conducts islandwide raids over underweight bread

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) conducted a special islandwide inspection programme on September 29, targeting the production and sale of bread.

A total of 107 shops and bakeries were inspected, with 35 cases involving underweight bread detected.

The CAA said bread weight was not properly displayed at 85 shops and bakeries, while prices were not properly displayed at 55 establishments. A total of 71 bakeries were inspected by CAA officers.

Officials have been instructed to trace underweight bread back to the bakery that produced or supplied it, rather than taking action only against the retail seller.

The CAA said legal action will be taken against traders and bakery owners or manufacturers who violate the relevant regulations. (Newswire)
