Big defence boost: India successfully tests advanced Agni MIRV missile

India on Friday successfully conducted the flight trial of an advanced Agni missile equipped with a Multiple Independently Targeted Re-Entry Vehicle (MIRV) system from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha.

The missile was tested with multiple payloads aimed at different targets spatially distributed across a vast geographical area in the Indian Ocean Region.

Telemetry and tracking operations were carried out through multiple ground-based and ship-based stations, which monitored the missile’s entire trajectory from lift-off to the impact of all payloads.

Flight data confirmed that all mission objectives were successfully achieved during the trial.

With this successful test, India has once again demonstrated its capability to engage multiple strategic targets using a single missile system, significantly enhancing its strategic deterrence capabilities.

The missile was developed by laboratories of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) with support from industries across the country.

The trial was witnessed by senior DRDO scientists and personnel of the Indian Army.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the Indian Army, and the participating industries on the successful flight test.

He said the achievement would add a significant boost to the country’s defence preparedness amid evolving security challenges and growing threat perceptions. (Indiablooms)
