Iran has taken back the 240 sailors who were under Sri Lanka’s care following last month’s naval incident.

Sri Lankan authorities facilitated the departure of the group, including survivors from the IRIS Dena and crew members of the IRIS Bushehr, sending them home on a special flight.

The repatriation comes weeks after the sinking of the IRIS Dena off Sri Lanka’s coast during the ongoing US-Iran conflict, where 32 sailors were rescued while dozens were killed .

Sri Lanka had been hosting over 200 Iranian naval personnel on humanitarian grounds, following international maritime obligations, before arranging their return to Iran. (Newswire)
