A young elephant, around five years old, was killed early this morning (27) when a van collided with it near the Galoya area on the Habarana-Trincomalee main road, police said.

The van, traveling from Habarana toward Trincomalee with 10 passengers on board, hit the elephant while it was reportedly crossing the road.

Police further said that the van’s driver and passenger, who were injured in the accident, were admitted to Dambulla Hospital for treatment.
