Two suspects, including a security officer attached to the Department of Motor Traffic, have been arrested over a racket issuing forged driving licences.
The suspects, aged 34 and 28 and residents of Homagama and Bulathkohupitiya, were taken into custody by special operations unit following an investigation.
The suspects had deceived individuals visiting the Department of Motor Traffic in Werahera by offering to provide fraudulent driving licences for a fee.
An undercover operation was carried out after receiving information about the racket, during which an officer posed as a customer and arranged to obtain a licence for Rs. 10,000, leading to the arrest of the main suspect.
Further investigations led to the arrest of a security officer employed at the department, who was found in possession of nine official security stickers used in issuing licences. (Newswire)
