Two Agrarian officials arrested over Rs. 300,000 bribe

The Bribery Commission has arrested a Development Officer of the Andiambalama, Agrarian Services Centre and an Agriculture Research and Production Officer for soliciting a bribe of Rs. 300,000.
According to the Bribery Commission, the two suspects were arrested on 15th August at the Agrarian Services Centre Office, based on a complaint filed by a businessman from Ja-Ela.
The suspects were arrested for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 300,000 to process the designation of a paddy field belonging to the complainant as a non-paddy land, and to provide a letter confirming the land would be treated as non-paddy land until the official designation was received.
The suspects have been remanded until September 02 after being produced before the Marawila Magistrate’s Court. (Newswire)
