Sri Lanka to appoint first four women DIGs of Police

Four women are set to be appointed as Deputy Inspectors General of Police in Sri Lanka for the first time in the country’s history.

The appointments, effective Jan. 1, 2025, were approved by the National Police Commission and granted final approval by Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya.

The new DIGs are Darshika Kumari, Padmini Weerasuriya, Renuka Jayasundara, and Nishani Seneviratne. Three of them joined the police service in 1997 as probationary assistant superintendents of police. (Newswire)
