Sri Lanka Police receive 2 Mobile CCTV Vans

Sri Lanka Police on Friday received two vans upgraded with modern surveillance camera systems to enhance monitoring and security operations, the Police Media Division said.

The vehicles were formally handed over at Police Headquarters under the patronage of Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya.

The Police Close Circuit Surveillance Camera Division, established on Dec. 29, 2010, had been operating with two camera-equipped vans. One of the vehicles has now been upgraded with advanced technological systems, while a second van has also been improved and deployed for operational duties.

Police said Rs. 9,794,000 was spent on upgrading the two vehicles.

The vans will be used for traffic control operations, security arrangements for local and foreign dignitaries, special security programmes, religious and cultural events, and national and international sporting events. They will also assist in traffic data collection and monitoring of protests, public gatherings and processions.

Senior police officials, including Deputy Inspector General Thushara Gunamalath, Senior Superintendent of Police Malin Perera and other officers of the Surveillance Camera Division, attended the event.

The Police Media Division said the upgraded vehicles are expected to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of field surveillance operations. (Newswire)
