Sri Lanka, Meta explore cooperation to curb misinformation

Minister Nalinda Jayatissa today met representatives of Meta at the Ministry of Health and Mass Media to discuss measures to address misinformation on social media platforms.

During the meeting, discussions focused on practical steps to prevent the spread of misinformation and disinformation, with attention given to promoting accurate information online.

The Minister also held talks on collaboration between the Government of Sri Lanka and Meta under the national programme “Ratama Ekata,” including efforts to combat illegal drug use.

Meta representatives expressed their willingness to support the government’s use of its platforms to raise awareness and strengthen the campaign, which aims to bring together multiple sectors to address the narcotics issue and rehabilitation efforts in a coordinated manner.

Minister Jayatissa welcomed Meta’s cooperation and said he looks forward to strengthening the partnership for the benefit of the public.

The meeting was attended by senior Meta officials responsible for public policy and safety in the region, along with representatives connected to the “Ratama Ekata” national initiative.
