Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) parliamentarian D. V. Chanaka has filed a defamation lawsuit against a radio channel, seeking one billion rupees in damages.

The case (DMR 01083/25) was lodged before the Colombo District Court, after the MP alleged that the channel had falsely claimed during a program that his late uncle had links to the underworld.

Chanaka said the remarks were baseless and defamatory, and noted that despite earlier requests to correct the statement during subsequent broadcasts, the channel failed to do so. The lawsuit therefore seeks both a public correction and compensation of one billion rupees in damages. (Newswire)
