The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has confirmed its control of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha and secured the chairmanship, following a vote held during the inaugural session today (24).

Lasantha Wickramasekara, the SJB’s nominee, was elected as the new Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha with a clear majority.

The vote had been previously postponed after two councillors from the National People’s Power (NPP) were reportedly abducted, raising concerns over the process. (Newswire)
