A few showers will occur in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy, Galle and Matara districts today, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and Batticaloa, Ampara and Mullaittivu districts after 1.00 pm.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers will occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Matara via Galle.
Winds will be westerly to south-westerly and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kalpitiya to Kankasanthurai via Mannar.
