Probe into treasure hunting case where woman may have been sacrificed – President

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Tuesday said a senior army officer is under investigation in connection with a suspected treasure hunting incident where investigators believe a woman may have been sacrificed.
Speaking at an event in Colombo, the President revealed the matter but did not provide further details.
Earlier this week, local media reported that police in Beliatta had arrested five suspects, including a retired Major General, on charges of treasure hunting. Acting on a tip-off from villagers, officers said they discovered the group on a 12-acre plot of land along the Beliatta–Dikwella road near the Dolahena Estate on August 23.
The suspects were taken into custody and remain under investigation. Authorities have not yet released official information on the reported human sacrifice claims. (Newswire)
