President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Monday left for the Maldives on a three-day official state visit.
President Disanayake is visiting the Maldives at the invitation of Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu.
The visit marks President Dissanayake’s first official trip to the Maldives since taking office and comes as the two nations celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations, established on July 29, 1965.
The leaders are expected to discuss strengthening bilateral ties, trade, and regional cooperation.
Talks may also include a proposed agreement aimed at creating a Maldives–Sri Lanka free movement and economic zone, which would allow citizens to live and work in either country without visas or permits. (Newswire)
